The accompanying plans, shewing the positions of both fleets atûdifferent stages in the action, are particularly interesting.ûAlthough published anonymously, the work was actually written by ColonelûJohn Drinkwater-Bethune, better known for his history of the Siege ofûGibraltar in the previous war. As a member of General Eliot's staff,ûBethune was returning from the Mediterranean in a frigate when he becameûan eyewitness of the battle.
